Roni's Thinking Games

TOC (Theory of Constraints for Education) has developed this short (less than 90 secs) video to help teach kids cause and effect thinking. This is what they have said:

"Hi Everyone, this clip is the first chapter out of 14, where we aim to improve our children's cause effect thinking. The approach is based on the Thinking Tools of TOC by Dr. Goldratt. HOPE YOUR KIDS ENJOY IT!!!

Learning cause and effect thinking may be helpful for all of us, from business to politics!

  1. Roni's Thinking Games is very simple ... suitable for a child to learn cause and effect.

Cause and effect logic is very powerful and too often bot used. For instance:

IF we load our factories with more and more work, the work in process on the shop floor will increase more and more. IF work in process on the shop floor increases more and more THEN lead-times will extend. IF work in process on the shop floor increases more and more it becomes more and more difficult to prioritise correctly. IF if becomes more and more difficult to prioritise AND lead-times extend more and more, THEN due date promises will often not be met. IF due date promises are often not met THEN customers may put more and more pressure on price OR customers may switch to a better supplier. IF customers put more pressure on price OR switch to a better supplier, THEN our bottom line suffers severely.

Also very simple, but often ignored ... many, if not most, factories load their resources as much as possible because of the implicit belief "a resource standing idle is a major waste".

Cause and effect analysis can be used to describe our behaviours and develop ways to counter that part of our behaviour that is damaging the bottom line.

Again, one small example of cause and effect a thinking process you should practice.
